Closer look at campervan hire prices

So, how much does it cost to hire a campervan in the UK? It's a simple question, but the answer varies depending on a number of factors, including the size of the campervan you hire, its luxury level, and the season that you’re taking your holiday in.

Large motorhomes with multiple berths that can sleep a family of four will obviously cost more than a smaller campervans that sleeps two.

And it’s a general rule of motorhome and camper van hire that the vehicles with the most berths are usually at the higher end of the luxury scale too – so the extra costs with a larger vehicle aren’t only about size.

At Freedhome we offer motorhomes for hire that sleep two to four and come with integrated showers and toilets. Our larger motorhomes have a higher level of luxury and are more spacious.

Our VW campervans can sleep up to four, but they are less spacious and only our Camelot VW campervan has an onboard shower. Let’s take a closer look.

Hiring a campervan with us

Our lowest cost vehicle is the Ashton 4-berth VW Campervan. It's perfect for couples or families with one or two children. It has a rock ‘n’ roll seat-bed in the rear and a front elevating roof, giving more space in the living area.

The kitchen comprises lightweight furniture with a worktop, sink with twin-burner hob and fridge freezer. The memory foam sleeping surface on the rear of the seat ensures you get a great night’s sleep and the elevating roof provides a roof bed, making this an ideal choice for families on weekend trips and longer holidays. There's no on-board toilet or shower however.

The Ashton 4-berth can cost £550 to hire for a week in October, and is available in both manual and automatic (price correct in September 2023 but cannot be guaranteed).

Turn up the luxury with motorhome hire

If you want to keep things small but don’t want to scrimp on luxury, the Como 2-berth manual vehicle offers motorhome comforts in a smaller package.

This is one of our most popular vehicles, ideal for couples who don't want to compromise their home comforts. It offers high-end style and design in a compact environment. There's an electronic drop down double bed, and a convertible ¾ bed within the dining area.

There's an on-board shower and toilet and a fully equipped kitchen too. The hire price for a week in October can come in at £950. (Price correct September 2023 but cannot be guaranteed.)

Go big and luxurious: Da Vinci 4-berth

If you’ve decided it’s a motorhome you’re after rather than a classic campervan, our Da Vinci motorhome sleeps 4, with a spacious front living area and large island bed at the rear. There is also a popular and integrated electronic dropdown bed, to make bedtime that much easier. LED lighting as well as lots of natural light throughout provides a clean, modern feel inside this family motorhome.

Other features in the vehicle include Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, cruise control, TV, parking sensors and rear parking camera, and of course an onboard toilet and shower.

Like all our campervans and motorhomes, the Da Vinci comes with a fully functioning kitchen and is equipped with all the kitchen items and cooking equipment you need to make meals whilst your holiday, at no extra cost.

This luxury motorhome for a family or group of four can cost £1,100 for a week in October (mid-season), but prices can vary in high season and in the holidays. (Price correct September 2023 but cannot be guaranteed.)

High season versus mid season price

The average price of hiring a campervan hire will also vary depending on the season: high season and mid season. Freedhome's hire seasons run from April 1 to October 21. Campsite costs also go up and down depending on the season, with many sites being shut during the winter months.

So when you're calculating how much does it cost to hire a campervan or motorhome, remember that the cost of your trip booking will vary depending on the season.

Don't forget campsite costs

When you're adding up the cost of your campervan holiday, there are other costs you've got to consider in addition to the price of motorhome hire.

Overnight stays at campsites and caravan parks add up over time, and you can estimate you'll pay at least £20 per night at good sites.

Freedhome offers Caravan Club sites membership to its customers, which gives you access to over 2,200 club sites around the UK, as well as 300 additional campsites in Europe.

Insurance and fuel costs

Insurance is included in the hire prices of our vehicles quoted on our website, but there is an additional EU Travel Cover insurance cost if you are travelling to Europe in one of our campervans.

UK breakdown cover is also included with our insurance.

Each vehicle comes with a full tank of fuel when you hire a campervan with us. You'll need to return the vehicle to us with a full tank of fuel at the end of your booking.

Additional extras with campervan hire

Don't forget extra costs of fun activities on your campervan holiday. Festival tickets, parking, eating in restaurants, days at the beach. It can cost money to park in popular tourist spots each day, and even if you just want to get away from it all and explore nature.

Some rental companies charge extra for exceeding a mileage allowance or hiring bike racks. Bike racks are free with your campervans, if you need them, and we don’t impose a mileage allowance with our rentals.

With Freedhome there's an extra charge if you'd like to take your pet along on your trip. And you can hire bedding from us and outdoor furniture as extras, making your trip more hassle free.
