Visit the Lake District

The Lake District is the gold standard for motorhome destinations in the UK. The vast hills and lakes are ideal for all kinds of holiday goers, whether they’re nature explorers, climbers, hikers, sailors, drivers, or just looking to relax. It’s England’s largest National Park, meaning there’s always more to experience for visitors both new and old.

Hiring a motorhome for the Lakes means you can explore how you want and when you want. You get the perfect mix of luxury and adventure, with our lavish, homelike interiors to live in, and the great outdoors always on your doorstep.

Our location in the North West of England means it’s ideal to hire from TMC and head up to the lakes. We’re less than an hour and a half drive away, and our detailed handover process, customer care, and free car drop off make it easy for those of any experience level.

We also offer a complementary Camping and Caravanning Club membership with every hire, meaning you can access their range of Lake District campsites at a discounted price.

Things to Do in the Lake District

Walking, Exploring and Adventuring
The Lake District is known for its walks, and for good reason. There are many walks to do across the park, including those on the lakeside, as well as hikes through the forests and up the hills. They’re all great for getting that sense of adventure and feeling closer to nature, whilst keeping fit in the process too.

What makes the Lake District so uniquely desirable is the freedom of choice with these walks. This includes dedicated trails, those that are more peaceful, or more adventurous. There are free guided walks, and more accessible routes available too (thanks to the Miles Without Stiles collection. Click below to see specific routes and more information.

Water Activities
Living up to its name, there’s plenty do across the Lake District’s 16 various lakes and other bodies of water.

For those bringing their own equipment, most of our motorhomes have large rear garage areas to take paddleboards, kayaks and more. Feel free to ask us about the specific dimensions of our garages. The Lake District also has a guide for doing your own water-based activities on each lake, which you can see by clicking here.

There are also options for boat hire, from smaller canoes all the way up to tour boat cruises. And if you’re looking for something more peaceful, fishing is also encouraged across the various lakes and rivers. Visiting Historical Areas
When you’ve had your fill of nature, why not explore some history? The Lake District has experienced centuries of civilisation, and there’s remnants of this all across the park.

This includes the various Stone Circles, many of which are over 5000 years old. There are also remains of Roman settlements (including free to visit forts and bathhouses), castles, Tudor manor houses, industrial sites and museums.

Family Activities
Many of the Lake District’s activities are built with families in mind. These are ideal to visit if you’re bringing children in one of our 4 or 5 berth motorhomes.

The most famous place specially built for children is Brockhole on Windermere Adventure Park. It’s a large, free adventure playground with many of its own extra activities, including archery, mini golf, boat hire and more.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, you’ll also find specialised buggy-friendly walks and forests to explore. And for the animal lovers, there’s the Lake District Wildlife Park, Alpacaly Ever After, and the Lakes Aquarium, where you can make new friends with some of the wildlife living in the Park.

Campsites in the Lake District

As mentioned earlier, the complementary Camping and Caravanning Club membership we offer lets you stay at their Lake District campsites for a discounted price. All the sites below are highly rated, offering specialist facilities for motorhomes.

South East Campsites – In Kendal and Windermere
There are three Club campsites towards the South East edge of the Lake District. These include Bowness on Windermere, Windermere, and Kendal. Windermere is the Lake District’s largest lake, and with these sites you can choose to camp right next to its shore, or just nearby. The local town of Kendal is also worth a visit if you need any extra supplies.

Northern Campsites – In Keswick and Braithwaite
Up on the North, there are three more Club sites: Keswick, Braithwaite Village, and Derwentwater. These are all within the Lake District itself, right amongst its more mountainous regions. As such, they’re great for hikers and explorers, with great scenery and routes right on your doorstep.

South West Campsites - In Ravenglass
There’s one more Club site towards the South West of the Lakes. This is Ravenglass, a peaceful and popular campsite with some unique qualities compared to the others here. Namely, due to being on the west, you’re able to explore the English coast just as easily as the Lake District. Other local attractions include Muncaster Castle and Scafell Pike.

Alongside the Club ran sites mentioned above, there are many other smaller, privately owned Club Certified campsites across the Lake District. These sites are often in more remote areas, but still have appropriate facilities for campers, and can often result in a more peaceful holiday.
