Visit France

France is in Western Europe and is known for its medieval towns and alpine villages. Its capital, Paris, is known for fashion, museums, and monuments. French is spoke throughout the country and the national currency is the Euro. When visiting France, no visa is needed, but a passport is required.

Best Time to Visit France

France is a great destination to visit all-year-round. The peak times to visit are mid-July to August and again mid-February to mid-March. Some local food to try while visiting France are escargot, local cheeses, pain au chocolat, patisserie, frogs legs, Bouillabaisse, and local wine.

French Culture

It is French culture for friends and family to kiss both cheeks, starting with the left, and for acquaintances to shake hands. They appreciate attempts to speak basic French. Try to keep hands out of pockets when talking to people.

France for Couples

Doussard – la Ravoire is a campsite located in the south east of France. This destination is perfect for couples who enjoy adventure and nature, located 1km from Lake Annecy. Col de la Forclaz is a great nearby location for cyclists with two routes that take you to the perfect location for paragliding and hand gliding as well as the amazing views over the lake.

Other nearby adventurous opportunities include:

  • Abseiling down canyons and waterfalls.
  • Visiting the medieval town of Annecy which is known as the ‘Venice of France’ which is accessible by guided boat tours.
  • The sea of ice Chamonix which is the largest French glacier.
  • La Sambuy which is great for hiking in both the summer and winter as there are always activities going on, and a shuttle from the campsite to the resort during high season.

There are also a few lakes and beaches nearby. Accrobranche is a wonderful place for daring activities such as climbing trees and taking part in the obstacle courses. Finally La Tournette is the mountain that faces the campsite. This hike takes up to 6 hours to reach the summit.

France for Families

Seine et Marne – Camping International de Jablines is located 9km from Disneyland (daily shuttle from the campsite and tickets available from the campsite reception) and 30km from Paris, which makes it a favourite destination for families. There are plenty of activities on site such as horse riding and water sports on the lake including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, and fishing. There are also tennis courts, mini golf, and trails around the local area. Some additional nearby attractions are Le Parc Des Felins, Asterix Park, Versailles castle, the medieval town of Provins, Vaux le Vicomte’s castle, and Fontainebleau’s castle.

France Families with young children

Le Gillieux – Camping whales is located near the edge of the island of Ré. This is a great, quiet place for families to visit. The campsite offers children’s entertainment in July and August which allows adults to have some time to themselves.

There is also a playground, volleyball field, bowling pitches, ping pong table and board games. The site offers bike rental to explore the environment, as the campsite is a short distance from the beach this is quiet place to relax and spend time together. Activities near the campsite include riding schools, sailing schools with activities such as sailing and kite surfing, golf course, markets (summer only), art galleries, and the aquarium of La Rochelle.
