Denmark is in Northern Europe and is the southernmost and smallest of the Nordic countries. It is known for being one of the happiest countries. Danish is spoken throughout the country. No visa is needed when travelling to Denmark but passports are required. The national currency is the Danish Krone.
The warmest time to visit is between June to August, shoulder seasons are April to May and October to November, and the most festive time to visit Denmark is during the Christmas season.
Some of the local foods to try are ørrebrød, pickled herring, Frikadeller meatballs, local blue cheese, Wienerbrød Danishes, and Akvavit snaps. Some information on the culture in Denmark is to not start eating until the host has given a toast or said ‘skol’. Greet people with a firm handshake and avoid any other personal contact. Punctuality is highly valued. It is very important that you follow the rules and are polite.
South Jutland, Henne – Henneby Camping is towards the west of Denmark near lake Filso. This is a great location for cycling as it is one of the 25 cycle routes along the coastline, starting in Henne Strand and ending in Blåbj. This route offers great scenery and culture as you bike through farmland where you can learn about a project that has created the sixth largest lake in Denmark. Some of the lakes along the route such as Mellemsøen not only have great scenery, but also offer a great place for bird watching in the area. Cycling through this area offers a quick change of scenery as the cycle path also goes past the dune plantations and splits off into a choice of routes to circle back or continue to the mountain bike routes. As well as being a great place for cycling there are other attractions such as the local art galleries and church.
Rødovre, Denmark – DCU-Copenhagen Camp is located 20 minutes from Copenhagen. There are plenty of activities and sightseeing in Copenhagen for the whole family to enjoy such as Tivoli Gardens amusement park, The Round Tower Observatory, Open Air Museum, Rosenborg castle, The Blue Planet aquarium, and Tycho Brahe Planetarium.
LEGOLAND Billund Resort – There are over 50 rides over 9 areas such as Ninjago world, Pirate land, and Duplo land. There are also plenty of attractions such as replicas of the 5 tallest buildings. The onsite campsites are less then 500m from the park which allows quick and easy access at all times. There is also a range of daily shows for children and adults as well as events that regularly change.
